Gold Tiles, Explained
Gold Tiles pay out when you land a piece on them. There is no spectral piece system and no ghost piece to convert, so treat this page as the real answer: Gold Tiles are a way to get paid for a landing you were going to make anyway.
THE SHORT VERSION
Landing from Stock costs a full turn. A Gold Tile turns that turn into a payout. The skill is timing: land on gold when you needed to land, not just because the tile is shiny.
How Gold Tiles Fit Your Turn
| Fact | Detail |
|---|---|
| What it does | Pays out when a piece lands on it |
| The cost | Landing costs a full turn, Gold Tile or not |
| The upside | A landing you had to make now also earns gold |
| The trap | Landing on gold for no reason hands the enemy a free turn |
Pair gold with a landing Gambit
Landing-triggered Gambits such as Skydiver’s, Spy’s, and Dungeon’s fire when you land a piece. Combine one with a Gold Tile and a single landing turn both repositions a piece and pays out. See the Gambit Chaining Guide.
When to Take the Gold
| Situation | Take the gold landing? |
|---|---|
| You needed to land a piece anyway | Yes, the payout is free |
| You have a landing-triggered Gambit ready | Yes, you double the value |
| The board is cramped and a landing costs tempo | Only if the payout changes your next shop |
| You are about to fight a boss | Usually no, save the turn for the fight |
Gold Tiles and the Boss Preview
Bosses change what a gold landing is worth. Hikarul the Banished blocks your Stock, so land the pieces you need before that fight rather than during it. Read the preview in the lower-left of every shop so you know when a landing turn is safe and when it is a liability.
