What Changed in v1.3.0
This is every material change and what it means for your next run.
New Gambits (2)
| Gambit | How It Works | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| Missigno’s Gambit | Sell this Gambit to turn ALL your pieces into random pieces. Created by the community. | S-TIER for lategame chaos. Use when your build plateaus at Stage 5+. |
| Graal’s Gambit | After receiving any Gambit, creates a BLESSING TILE on a non-modified tile. | A-TIER. Free tile upgrade every Gambit pickup. Excellent synergy with Blessed Tile strats. |
Missigno’s is the bigger game-changer. It’s a high-risk, high-reward pivot tool. If your Stage 4 build isnt holding up, pop it and let RNGesus take the wheel.
Removed Gambits (2)
- Shield’s Gambit – Too similar to Bubble Shield’s
- Trojan’s Gambit – Too similar to Jockey’s
If you have old builds referencing either, the closest replacement is Bubble Shield’s or Jockey’s respectively.
The Big Nerf: Templar’s Gambit
Old: 1/1 chance (always triggers). New: 1/3 chance.
This is the single most impactful change in v1.3.0. Templar was an auto-pick in every run. Now it fires roughly one in three turns. The strategy implications:
- Don’t build around Templar anymore. It’s a nice bonus, not a core strategy.
- Swap to Whip or Pendant for consistent economy generation.
- Templar still has value in BISHOP-heavy builds where you’re making multiple pieces per turn – the odds stack.
6 Gambits Buffed to 1/1 (Guaranteed)
| Gambit | Old Trigger | New Trigger | Impact |
|---|---|---|---|
| Whip’s Gambit | 1/2 | 1/1 | Always triggers now. A-tier economy Gambit. |
| Chamberlain’s Gambit | 1/2 | 1/1 | Consistent piece generation. |
| Dead or Alive’s Gambit | 1/3 | 1/1 | Massive buff. Now reliable. |
| Show Jumping’s Gambit | 1/2 | 1/1 | Always jumps. Excellent for Knight builds. |
| Pendant’s Gambit | 1/2 | 1/1 | Guaranteed pendant drop. |
| Miracle’s Gambit | 1/3 to 1/2 (v1.2) | 1/1 (v1.3) | Three-stage buff from 1/3 to 1/1. |
Bunker’s Gambit Rework
Old: PROTECTING a piece during Crumble Mode gives +$3. New: PROTECTING a piece gives +$1 (any time).
This is a net buff, not a nerf. See our Stalemate & Bunker’s Rework Guide for a full comparison.
Stalemate Revamp
Change: The Stalemate counter now resets after winning a boss fight.
Previously, Stalemate could carry over between stages and trigger unexpectedly. Now you get a clean slate after each boss. Full analysis in the Stalemate & Bunker’s Rework Guide.
Other Notable Fixes
| Fix | What Changed |
|---|---|
| Tal the Cursed | Power no longer blocks “No tiles” achievement |
| 9 Kings achievement | Triggers at exactly 9 (not 9+) |
| Makibishi’s Gambit | Won’t trigger on non-Knight piece capture |
| Mercenary’s Gambit | No longer protects King every turn |
| Copycat Gambit | Won’t get stuck mid-screen after Gachapon |
| Eugenic Gambit | Only grants piece Gambits (no UTILITY) |
What This Means for Your Builds
Builds That Got Stronger
- Knight Rush – Show Jumping is now guaranteed. Whip always triggers. Dead or Alive always pays. See our Knight & Pawn Meta Guide.
- Protect Economy – Bunker’s global +$1 makes PROTECT loops viable in every stage. See Pawn Economy Loop.
- Blessed Tile Strats – Graal’s Gambit + existing Blessed Tile Gambits make tile-based builds more consistent. Read our Spectral Piece Guide.
Builds Weakened
- Templar-dependent builds – If your strategy relied on Templar’s guaranteed trigger, you need to pivot. Swap to the buffed 1/1 Gambits above.
- Lich builds – Lich was nerfed in v1.2.0 and hasn’t recovered. Skip it unless you have specific synergy pieces.
